  • Prof. Tom Ziegler from the University of Calgary got the Senior Humboldt Research Award and visits the Mulliken Center from Feb. 20th to Mai 20th.
  • A new position as Full Professor (W3) for Theoretical Chemistry is available. Talks of the candidates.
  • Prof. Stefan Grimme is elected as a member of the DFG "Fachkollegium Molekülchemie".
  • On July 15th, 2011, the University of Ulm awarded a honorary doctorate to Prof. em. Dr. Sigrid D. Peyerimhoff.
    Press release by the idw

The Mulliken center presently consists of two subgroups (Grimme, Bredow) conducting basic research in quantum chemistry. The full implementation of the center will include a third permanent professorship. Prof. Peyerimhoff as the former chair of theoretical chemistry is still active as professor emeritus. Consequently, there is a rather wide variety of research topics and methods that are partly pursued in close collaboration with experimental or other theoretical groups. The main activities are:

  • Ab initio quantum chemistry.
  • Density functional theory.
  • Dispersion corrections and non-covalent interactions
  • Theoretical optical spectroscopy (absorption, CD, vibrational structure).
  • Theoretical thermochemistry.
  • Reaction mechanisms in organic and organometallic chemistry.
  • Theoretical solid state chemistry (cyclic cluster model, CCM).
  • Semi-empirical quantum chemistry (MSINDO).
